Flexible Thermal-Transfer Printable RFID Tags

These UHF RFID non-adhesive tags were designed to be printed and encoded using RFID capable thermal-transfer printers. They can withstand harsh temperatures, as low as -80°C/-112°F, ideal for low temperature conditions and storage, as well as high temperatures, up to +100°C/+212°F. In addition, their printout is resistant to common sanitizing procedures when printed with our recommended XAR-class of ink ribbons. Due to their versatile resistance, printout capability, and electronic data retention, these RFID tags are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and wherever adhesive-free RFID identification is required.

They can be inserted within, directly mechanically fastened, or used as hang tags on various items such as lumber, pallets, horticultural products, and other moveable assets for easy electronic tracking and inventory management. Furthermore, they can be used as name tags and badges for conferences, RFID business cards, stapled to important documents and paper folders, as well as for internal identification of boxes and bins to preserve the identity of confidential content.

Using dedicated RFID thermal-transfer printers, the printout of these RFID tags can consist of alphanumeric text and 1D/2D barcodes, while the encoded RFID data can include up to 32 hexadecimal characters of readable, writable, and serialized information. These RFID tags (Class 1, Gen 2) are compatible with handheld, fixed, and integrated UHF RFID readers. Furthermore, they can be integrated into your existing RFID management system to improve the identification, inventory management, and traceability of different items, as well as to enhance process efficiency, security, and compliance with quality regulations.

The size and type of RFID inlay used, as well as the attachment slot of the tags, can be customized upon request.

  • 12” omnidirectional read range*, without direct line-of-sight, ensures quick, easy, and accurate reading from every angle
  • Read multiple items at the same time**
  • Printed & encoded using thermal-transfer RFID printers
  • Non-adhesive RFID tag ideally suited for non-stick applications
  • Withstand incidental exposure to alcohol
  • Weather-resistant***
  • Writable with markers and regular pens

* When using our recommended RFID reader. Read range can vary according to the RFID reader being used.

** Tags should not be enclosed by metal surfaces as this may cause interference that can affect their ability to be scanned/read.

*** Prior testing in your outdoor conditions is strongly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, these RFID tags require a thermal-transfer ink ribbon to achieve the proper printout. We suggest our XAR-Class ink ribbon of the same width or larger, suitable for the RFID thermal-transfer printer being used.

No, while RFID tags can be printed in most common thermal-transfer printers, you will require an RFID capable thermal-transfer printer for simultaneous RFID encoding. We recommend the Zebra ZD621R UHF RFID thermal-transfer printer.

No, these RFID tags are adhesive-free but can be mechanically fasted to items using staples or holes.

They can be mechanically attached by stapling onto the appropriate surface or attached via a manually introduced hole or slot.

Yes, we can provide a total customization solution to select the appropriate attachment hole configuration to meet your specific application needs. Please consult our technical support team for details regarding custom options.

Yes, RFID tags will withstand deep-freeze conditions (-80°C/-112°F) and can be placed inside plastic bags and boxes to identify them prior to storage in low temperature freezers.

Yes, these flexible RFID tags can be read while stored in low temperature conditions or immediately following removal from the deep-freeze storage. However, they cannot be read while surrounded by metal or outside of the RFID functional temperature range (-35°C to +85°C / -31°F to +185°F). Prior testing of RFID readability in your unique conditions is strongly recommended.

Yes, these RFID tags will resist elevated temperatures, up to +100°C (+212°F).

Yes, these RFID tags are weather-resistant, have ultraviolet and water resistance, and also withstand temperatures between -80°C/-112°F to +100°C/+212°F. Prior testing in your outdoor conditions is strongly recommended.

Yes, when printed using our recommended XAR-Class ink ribbon, you can spray and swab them with common alcohols to sanitize your flexible RFID tags.

Yes, these tags can be inscribed using permanent markers and pens. We recommend our markers for writing on these non-adhesive RFID tags.

Yes, an RFID reader is required to access the encoded data. It can be handheld, fixed, and integrated. We recommend the Unitech Handheld UHF RFID Reader for mobility, reach, and ease of use. This reader can read the UHF RFID chip and scan 1D and 2D barcodes.

No, these tags employ UHF RFID technology and thus cannot be interrogated using the NFC band frequency. Thus, a dedicated UHF RFID reader is needed. For RFID tags customized with NFC RFID technology, contact our technical support team.

Place the UHF RFID reader at a maximum of 12” (30.5 cm) away from the sample in any direction. However, the read range can vary according to the UHF RFID reader being used.

Yes, this RFID tag is compatible with both regulations. Interrogate these tags with a UHF reader capable of reading the frequency band.

The UHF RFID chip (Class 1, Gen2) of the RFID tag can be encoded with up to 32 hexadecimal characters.

Yes, these RFID tags contain read-write UHF RFID chips. Thus, you can rewrite the memory bank (EPC, TID, and user) of the UHF RFID chip up to 100,000 times if the permalock feature is inactive.

Yes, you can scan/read multiple RFID flexible tags at the same time within the interrogation timeout (in seconds), even without a direct line-of-sight to the UHF RFID reader.

No, these RFID tags are battery-free. They do not require a battery to be functional as they employ passive RFID technology.

Yes, though you can design your own template that corresponds to the size of the tags using specialized software such as BarTender Pro (or higher) and ZebraDesigner3 Pro, which allow you to encode the RFID tags as well.

Yes, we can provide our flexible RFID tags preprinted with full-color graphics and logos, as well as variable or serialized information from a database. Please consult our technical support team for details regarding custom encoding and other custom printing options.
